Wednesday Cricket Club enabled a seperate football branch to keep members together during the winter season. The name derived from the cricket team, who played on Wednesday afternoons when workers associated with the club had a half day off work.
Players wore whatever they could but by 1872, they registered their colours as blue and white hoops. This is why, despite being formed in 1867 this retro shirt was the first one recognised. The crest shows the Cricket Club still playing a pivotal part in the early years of the club and it wasnt until 1883 when the Football club split from the cricket club over a dispute about money.
